Are you looking to get more involved in fighting hunger in your community?

Food Bank of the Rockies is excited to announce a new project! We will be purchasing and installing 40-foot refrigerated shipping container pantries in three locations around our service area one in the metro Denver area, one on the Western Slope, and one on the Eastern Plains. These will serve as a source of fresh produce for Food Bank of the Rockies’ partner agencies who have a hard time accessing fresh food from our warehouses due to travel distance. This idea sprung from a similar project initiated several years ago by Central Texas Food Bank, which you can see here.

We are looking for partners (our member agencies or other community organizations) who would be interested in hosting one of these containers. If you are interested in being part of this innovative way to distribute fresh produce, or if you know of any organization that might be, please reach out to the contacts below. Both Food Bank of the Rockies’ partners and non-partners are welcome, so if you know of a location that might be a good fit, let us know! We’re looking forward to this new way of Fighting Hunger and Feeding Hope!

Thank you,

Grocery Box for Older Adults (CSFP) Program Changes

The implementation date for the enhanced CSFP Food Package has been delayed until February 1, 2020. Continue to distribute all remaining inventory using First In, First Out practices.
Changes to the food package will provide you with more food, more variety, and better align with ChooseMyPlate.gov and current nutrition guidance. In the enhanced monthly food package, some of the changes you will see include:

  • Double the amount of vegetables
  • More protein, including plant-based proteins such as canned and dry beans
  • More options within each food category, such as brown rice and soup
  • Smaller package sizes of rice, oatmeal, grits, dry beans, and non-fat dried milk that are more appropriate for small households and that allow you to receive a greater variety of options in your food package each month.

For more information on the enhanced new food items and packaging sizes for the CSFP Food Package, click here.

Food Rescue

Food Bank of the Rockies has had a stellar first few months of fiscal year 2020! It’s been a fantastic harvest season and produce donations have been flowing in left and right - cabbage from Dionisio Farms in Pueblo, carrots from Hungenberg Produce in Greeley, corn from Fort Morgan, and literally tons and tons of peaches from Palisade. July and August’s product mix included 28% fresh produce, and with all the donations we’ve been getting in September, we expect it to be even higher this month! We love being able to provide fresh, local, tasty produce to our agencies and clients, and are so grateful for the amazing farmers and growers who partner with us. This is a great start as we look to expand and increase our distribution of fresh food. Hop on Agency Express and check out all the great items we have!
