We’re Excited for New Shifts in 2020

Our strategic planning process is taking shape and we wanted to share our progress with you. We will be focusing on these five core strategies:

  • Community and Agency Partnerships

  • Leadership and People Enhancement and Development

  • Operational Excellence

  • Revenue Growth and Expansion

  • Technology and Infrastructure

These strategies were born from our listening sessions with volunteers, staff, board members, and agency and community partners. Our team has spent the last few months diving into each strategy to create initiatives, which we will implement in our new three-year plan.

We’re also introducing our new organizational values. As we aspire to become better every day, we are excited to incorporate these values into our work.

  • Service: Giving of ourselves with compassion and humility for the benefit of others

  • Integrity: Consistently knowing and choosing what’s right; leading by example

  • Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity: Recognizing the value of different perspectives and life experiences to positively influence and impact strategic direction and decision making

  • Collaboration: Establishing a mindset of engagement and trust to build collaborative and supportive relationships with our internal and external partners

  • Innovation: Having the courage to disrupt the status quo with creative, forward thinking solutions that intentionally push the boundaries to deliver mission success

And last but not least, we have a new mission statement.

We ignite the power of community to nourish people facing hunger.

If you have feedback regarding our mission and values, we’d love to hear from you!

Volunteer Spotlight: Dana Wood F.I.S.H of Commerce City

Volunteer of Month Jan 2020The youngest of nine children, Dana grew up in poverty, experiencing the fear and uncertainty of not always knowing where his next meal would come from. As an adult, and after years of providing a better life for children of his own, he decided to give back and help other families in need. One day Dana walked into F.I.S.H. of Commerce City, thinking that the local food pantry would be a meaningful place to volunteer. “What started out as a week of volunteering turned into a career,” he told us.

F.I.S.H. of Commerce City is one of Food Bank of the Rockies’ partner agencies. Dana receives monthly VIP food credits to help the pantry by volunteering every Saturday at Food Bank of the Rockies. He sorts donations and works on the dock, performing quality checks to ensure products distributed to the community are safe. “That’s probably the biggest reward I see out of volunteering.”

We are so grateful to have Dana as part of our community. His efforts, along with gifts of time from all our volunteers, provided the hourly equivalent of 92 full-time employees last fiscal year. Because of volunteers, Food Bank of the Rockies can help our partner agencies nourish communities across Colorado and Wyoming. Thank you for all you do!
