Important Information for our Partners

Food Bank of the Rockies' Operational Plans and Coronavirus Preparedness - Denver, Western Slope, and Wyoming

There is no higher priority to our Food Bank of the Rockies family than the safety of our staff, partners, volunteers, and clients.

Thank you for joining our efforts to lessen the potential impact of COVID-19. We are taking reasonable and appropriate precautionary measures, based on the CDC’s recommended prevention practices, and we encourage your programs to do the same. We have enhanced our facilities’ cleaning procedures to protect staff and volunteers, and we have guidelines in place to reduce the risk of infection. As of now, we have no plans to temporarily cease any of our food distribution programs. We are monitoring the situation closely and preparing for alternative ways to distribute food in the event of a widespread outbreak.

Prevent the spread of germs and share these tips with your team and clients.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Avoid close contact with people who show symptoms of illness.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect cell phones, doorknobs, and other frequently touched surfaces and objects, using a regular household cleaning product.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains 60%–95% alcohol.

We are expecting food insecurity to increase in coming weeks as many people in our community may be going without wages. During this time, we are committed to you – our partners, people experiencing food insecurity, and also the safety of our staff and volunteers. 

To ensure continued food distribution, we are working to establish operational plans, taking into consideration the safety of our staff, volunteers, partners and clients, in the event of a significant local Coronavirus outbreak. In doing so, we are presuming an increased number of people may need food assistance. It’s also possible less help will be available to them if some partner programs need to close. We are forming plans in Colorado and Wyoming to expand partnerships with larger agencies able to potentially serve increased numbers of clients during this time, possibly via different distribution models (such as drive-through) to increase social distancing to protect volunteers, staff and clients during food distribution. We will be sharing specifics of those systems with you soon. In the meantime, please contact us to discuss how your food pantry can help. (See contact information below.)

We are evaluating our service and access to ensure we’re doing as much as we can to get nourishing food to as many people as possible in the event of a major outbreak.

Please be respectful.

We know providing food assistance requires a caring heart. We’re also aware the threat of a deadly virus can be unnerving. Please treat people with dignity during this time. While it’s important to take safety precautions such as limiting physical contact, it’s also important to be kind and compassionate. Do not assume someone who is displaying cold symptoms has Coronavirus. Please treat all those needing food assistance respectfully. We are actively monitoring the situation through a variety of sources including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization and Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment. We’re consulting with Feeding America, FEMA, Colorado VOAD and the USDA and taking recommended measures as warranted.
